FCC Formally Announces Wireless Industry Probe
The Federal Communications Commission has formally announced its plans to review wireless industry practices, reports The Wall Street journal. The agency will examine issues ranging from the state of wireless market competition to the fees tacked on to subscribers’ bills.
This inquiry is separate from the one announced by FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski back in June that will examine the exclusive deals between wireless carriers and cell phone makers.
In other FCC news, AppleInsider reports that Google could face the same scrutiny as Apple and AT&T. Apple and AT&T are facing a probe for blocking Google Voice for the App Store. Google has been accused of the same practice for blocking a Skype application from its Android platform.
