AT&T to Roll Out HSPA 7.2 in Six Markets by End of Year

AT&T announced it will roll out its new HSPA 7.2 technology in six markets by the end of 2009. Residents of Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles and Miami will be the first to benefit, reports AppleInsider. The telco also plans to  roll out the technology to 25 of the top 30 markets before 2010 is over and to cover 90 percent of its 3G coverage area by the end of 2011.

The speed boost will also allow iPhone 3GS users to fully take advantage of their handset. To ensure that the increase in speed is not all for naught, AT&T also plans to upgrade the backhaul capacity of its cell sites to make its network more sturdy, says Macworld.
